Where to dive in Poland: Krakow

Diving in Krakow

Diving in Krakow includes two popular closed quarries. One of them is located in Zakrzówek. It is one of the most interesting diving areas in Poland which is evidenced by its popularity. The second quarry, popularly known as Koparki (Excavators), is located in Jaworzno Szczakowa. This is the place that every diver should see in this country. Both tanks are the main diving attractions in the vicinity of Silesia and Lesser Poland.

Diving conditions

The quarry in Zakrzówek is a tank with an area of 12 hectares and a depth of approximately 30 ft. It is clearly divided into two bodies which are combined with the isthmus that is about 25 metres wide. Best visibility under water occurs in winter and it is 10-15 meters away. During the summer it is reduced to about 5-8 m.

Throughout more than a dozen of years, very interesting flora and fauna has grown int the tank. Most of the fish got accustomed to the presence of divers. You will come across such fish here as as roach or perch. Tress submerged under water also look beautifully.

The Koparki quarry has its own diving base. Diving in the tank can regarded as simple. This is the place where you need to dive in when you are in Poland. The best time to dive in Koparki is winter. Because of the purity of water, it has a very high visibility.

In addition to the excavators sunken in the quarry, under water you will also find: the pumping station shed, bunker, car and pump baskets with a bridge.
In the tank, you will also come across several species of fish. These include herd of perch and roach.

Łukasz Głowacki

I’ve been diving for almost 10 years. The underwater world won my heart quite quickly. From the very beginning I wanted to be a good diver and partner, so I kept practising until I got a Master Scuba Diver PADI degree. I dive in hot and cold waters around the world. The thing I like most about diving is the sense of weightlessness and possibility to dive in the depths. I’m not too demanding when it comes to the landscapes, although I do enjoy their diversity, so I like diving in different places and conditions.
