Where to dive in Spain: Catalonia

Diving in Catalonia

Catalan waters are another proof that Spain is one of the best diving destinations in Europe. Catalonia is a geographical region bordering with France located at the Mediterranean Sea. In terms of diversity, it is certainly a very interesting target for each diver. In addition to the beautiful reefs and wrecks, there are also underwater mountains, and even a marine nature reserve. If you are asking yourself where in Spain you should dive, Catalonia is undoubtedly one of your better answers.

Diving conditions

In Catalonia a few dives take place away from the shore, most of them are possible only
from the boat. The temperature of water in Catalonia is maintained at the level of 16-25°C, so you can dive throughout the year.
The most popular place to dive in Catalonia is Costa Brava. Here is the aforementioned marine nature reserve. One of the most interesting diving attractions is the possibility to see three underwater mountains.
Out of the available diving spots, it is also worth to visit the areas of Barcelona where you will find beautiful rocks and caves. We can also admire the wonderful, underwater habitat of marine creatures residing there.
If we want to avoid the crowds, you might want to visit Tarragona. Wrecks such as El Dragonera, or the famous, sunk more than a hundred years ago El Cavour, is a real treat for every technical diver. For anyone who is trying to decide where to dive in Spain, we definitely recommend Catalonia – the region is very colorful and diverse, not only underwater.

I’ve been diving for almost 10 years. The underwater world won my heart quite quickly. From the very beginning I wanted to be a good diver and partner, so I kept practising until I got a Master Scuba Diver PADI degree. I dive in hot and cold waters around the world. The thing I like most about diving is the sense of weightlessness and possibility to dive in the depths. I’m not too demanding when it comes to the landscapes, although I do enjoy their diversity, so I like diving in different places and conditions.
